Signature STEAM Labs
STEAM labs at MAJ have been the highlight to scholar creativity and innovation! Each lab provides a strategic place for scholars to explore and develop 21st Century Skills via the Engineering & Design Process while continuously integrating the learning standards!
Students can use the STEAM labs to prepare for STEM/STEAM Competition at MAJ!
Each year, students at MAJ are provided an opportunity to apply the scientific method while conducting independent research. The results of each student's research are presented in a schoolwide science fair and/or a sponsored local science fair where the student's efforts are displayed and where students are interviewed to determine scientific merit. Students who have been judged to have used the scientific method properly and who have demonstrated thoroughness in their studies and effort are awarded prizes and are advanced to compete in district and state science fairs. Other competitions MAJ students participate in include, but is not limited to the Technology and Innovation Fair, Lego Robotics competition, and the APS Student Film Festival.
Lower grades STEAM Lab (K-2nd)
Our lower grades STEAM Lab focuses on real world problems which align to the learning targets and standards. Scholars make use of technology and collaborative apps to learn and explore topics in Science using hands-on learning! Some of our favorite hands-on learning concepts include chicken rearing and coding with mini gadgets! In the lower grades lab, scholars also take advantage of virtual reality field trips to expose them to places beyond our community!
Upper grades STEAM Lab (3rd-5th)
The upper grades STEAM Lab and Innovation Lab allows scholars to engage in Urban Gardening & Sustainability while incorporating concepts on entrepreneurship. Our upper grade scholars are proud to have a focus on harvesting using our own aquaponics system! Scholars in the upper grades STEAM Lab also include standards based integration using software such as Nearpod, Drone Technology, 3D Modeling, ZSpace, 3D Studio Max, and Google Classroom!
Makerspace
The Makerspace is an open space that allows scholars to explore creativity in their own unique way while remaining focused on the Georgia Standards of Excellence! Though activities in the Makerspace align to the standards, the scholars’ creativity is not restricted to guided instruction. Scholars are reminded of the Engineering & Design way of thinking, encouraged to explore Project Based Learning by integrating 21st century skills! Scholars demonstrate tinkering skills that will take their creativity beyond the classroom!
Learning Commons
The Learning Commons, formerly known as the media center is an innovative space where more than reading takes place! The Learning Commons is a space modeled after a college campus to give scholars a sense of autonomy and comfort! We have integrated technology along with activities supported by the Georgia Standards of Excellence which includes 21stCentury Enhancements! From morning news broadcasting to green screens, scholars can do it all! The creation station is a portable production studio, allowing scholars to produce their own audio and visual work from scratch! Scholars create works such as soundtracks and innovative visuals using software such as Adobe Premiere, Protools, and more!
Coding Lab
Our Coding Lab provides students with hands-on opportunities to explore technology, creativity, and problem-solving. Using iMacs, iPads, and robotics tools, students learn to code, design digital projects, and build solutions to real-world challenges. Through engaging activities, students develop computational thinking skills such as recognizing patterns, creating step-by-step instructions, testing and improving their work, and collaborating with others. The Coding Lab empowers students in grades K–5 to become innovative thinkers and responsible digital citizens while building essential 21st-century skills.
